'He's already popular, find someone new and fresh', I hear you say. Well give me a moment.
I'm mentioning Devlin because yes, he is established, but he still has exactly the same sound as he did when he did London City and His clash with Wiley. Yeah, now his songs have choruses and the basic structure of a pop song, but his lyrics are just as vicious as they were then and he's not apologising for it. This makes me extremely happy. I shudder when I think about the likes of Roll Deep, Chipmunk and and Tinchy Stryder (though Tinchy still has his good days - will mention one at the end of this post). You may feel the need to 'widen' your audience, but that doesn't mean water it down. Devlin is true to how he started, therefore he is great.
Now for new and fresh sounding. Pow 2011. It's Pow... just 7 years later. Changed up the beat. Different artists. New bars. Beauty. WUDUDUDUDUDADADADA.
And Game Over. This is GOOD. Tinchy stryder, Giggs, Pro Green, Tinie, Devlin and Example. What a beaut. So here is one of the times when Tinchy Stryder and the guys impress me. THEN the women of the grime scene try to top it and FAILED. Miserably. They're all very talented, but it wasn't that good.
