(James Blake was the runner-up of the BBC Sound of 2011 poll, second to Jessie J.)
Winter is the perfect time for moody, thoughtful music. I thank God for Winter because if it didn't exist I wouldn't be listening to this perfect song.
This is a recording of James performing at the legendary Maida Vale Studios for Radio 1. No album recording could ever sound as heartfelt as this. Maybe it's his voice and his lyrics combined with those rain-like effects, but honestly this is the best thing I have heard in so long. It makes you reminisce about a rainy day where all you did was sit at the window and think about your life. Depressing, in a good way. Probably not one to listen to when you up for a party, but good for alone time.
People have called him Posh-step even, but I think he's just minimal with amazing production to go with it. He could be compared to The XX with his simplicity, but Blake's music has a lot more depth to it.
EDIT. I wrote this before the guardian wrote their article on him. Therefore, I get to coin The XX comparison.
